After a strenuous workout at the gym, outside running or playing sport, it’s important to refuel. A good food source to help the body recover should contain both carbohydrates and protein. One such example is a chicken and avocado sandwich on granary bread.
The carbohydrates come from the bread. They replenish the reduced energy stores, that have diminished through exercising. As the granary bread is lower on sugars than white bread, there isn’t such a spike in your blood sugar levels and as such insulin levels do not rise as high.
The chicken is a lean source of protein, the amino acids help the muscles to recover and repair. The avocado in the sandwich provides plant fats that are high in hdl’s. Basically these are the good fats that your body needs. If you require the bread to be buttered, do exactly that, use butter.
There you have it, a delicious and quick way to provide a little bit of everything your body needs to recover and repair after exercise.
